NASA’s Vehicle Assembly Building
- 4th largest building in the world (by volume)
- 525 feet tall by 716 feet long by 518 feet wide (129,428,000 cubic feet)
- Each star in the American flag on the side of the building is 6 feet wide
- The field of blue around the 50 stars on the flag is the size of a basketball court
- The red and white stripes in the flag are as wide as a road lane
- The flag was painted on the building in 1976
- The building contains 10,000 pounds of air conditioning equipment
- All of the air in the building can be replace about every hour
- The building is large enough to have it’s own weather system. Clouds have been known to form near the ceiling of the building during very humid conditions.
- The foundation of the building contains 30,000 cubic yards of concrete
- The building contains the 4 largest doors in the world (456 feet tall each)
- The 4 large doors on the building take 45 minutes to open fully
